Fiji-based retail chain CJS Supermarket has expanded into the Pacific by acquiring Swanson, Niue’s largest supermarket, marking its first regional branch opening.
The acquisition signals a major milestone for the steadily growing CJS brand, which operates four outlets across Fiji.
Company executives say the move reflects confidence in Niue’s market and the strong cultural and economic links between the two Pacific nations, underpinned by a sizeable Fijian community living on the island.
CJS Supermarket says it plans to export a wide range of goods directly from Fiji, increasing product variety and ensuring a more reliable supply of familiar, trusted Fijian brands for customers in Niue.
In a statement, Executive Director Namrata Charan Singh thanked the previous owners — John, Anne and Chris Heise — for their cooperation and support throughout the transition.
“Their professionalism and commitment made this new chapter possible,” she said.
With the purchase of Swanson, CJS says it is committed to maintaining high standards of customer service while expanding product choices and convenience for Niuean shoppers.
The company added that the expansion is part of its longer-term regional growth strategy and looks forward to becoming a trusted part of everyday life in Niue.
The purchase price has not been disclosed.
