THE Savusavu market lacks green vegetables at almost every stall.
This shortage has resulted in vendors increasing the price of limited supplies of green vegetables.
Savusavu market vendor Ane Mafi said there was a shortage of vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, long beans and bele among others. She said farmers and some vendors only concentrated on root crops instead of green vegetables.
“Most iTaukei farmers in this area do not plant vegetables. This is the case with most farmers here. It’s easy money as it is harvested after every three to four months.
“iTaukei farmers should also plant vegetables because it can be good revenue for them every month.”
Ms Mafi said she bought her cabbage and moca supplies from Labasa to sell at her stall in Savusavu.
With this, she had to meet the demand from her customers.
She has been selling at her stall for more than 10 years and had seen this trend since she started selling at Savusavu market.
