Executives at the helm

* Fiji Airways

Fiji’s national carrier had announced the appointment of Andre Viljoen as the new CEO and managing director this week.

The present head of Air Mauritius, Mr Viljoen was expected to take up the position before October 1 this year.

Mr Viljoen, who was born in South Africa, has 33 years of professional experience in the airline and tourism industries and had been at the helm of Air Mauritius since 2010.

He holds an honours degree in commerce and is a chartered accountant.

He started his airline career with Comair British Airways in South Africa in the 1980s as financial manager and soon grew to the position of Group Financial and commercial director, which he held for more than 10 years.

In 1992, he joined South African Express Airways as chief operating officer.

Three years later, he joined South African Airways as chief financial officer and took over as president and CEO in 2000 until 2005.

In 2009, he joined Air Mauritius, the national airline for Mauritius, initially as chief financial officer and CEO in 2010.

* Citizens’ Constitutional Forum (CCF)

The board of CCF announced the appointment of Sara Mataitawakilai as the new CEO for the organisation.

Board chair Tessa Mackenzie said they were pleased that Mr Mataitawakilai had accepted the offer.

Mr Mataitawakilai has extensive experience in management and rural community development; a former primary schoolteacher and more recently at the top of provincial level governance for the Cakaudrove Provincial Council office as roko tui Cakaudrove.

He served with the CCF education team for three years.

He is expected to start in the role at the end of July.
