Lawyer Isireli Fa is urging the Leader of the Opposition Inia Seruiratu to immediately refrain from making uninformed comments, that were tantamount to interference and an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
Representing the Judicial Services Commission, Mr Fa, who filed judicial review proceedings against the findings and recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry Report, released a statement yesterday expressing disappointment with statements made by Mr Seruiratu where he demanded the Government take immediate action on the findings and recommendations of the COI.
Mr Fa said the JSC and its officers have raised very serious complaints against the COI Report and its findings and recommendations, alleging serious misconduct by the COI.
These concerns, he said, were known to both the Prime Minister and the COI.
“Unfortunately, Mr Seruiratu and others are now weaponising a very flawed COI Report and using it as a Trojan horse to achieve a political agenda,” he said in a media release.
“Surely, the JSC and its officers have the right to challenge the COI findings and recommendations, as the Report maligns their professionalism, character, and credibility.
“The offices of the Prime Minister and the President are acting correctly and within the law in allowing the legal challenge to take its course.
“This should also be the position taken by (Mr Seruivatu), as it upholds the law and ensures that no citizen of this country has their character and integrity maligned without the right and opportunity to respond to the same.
Mr Fa urged Mr Seruiratu and others critical of the legal challenge to be patient and allow the report to be properly examined for flaws and errors, which he claims have been concealed from the public.
He warned legal action would be taken if these interference do not cease.
