A GOVERNMENT minister has raised fresh concerns over the misuse of government vehicles.
Infrastructure Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau said reports had been made of government vehicles not being used for their intended purpose.
“This is why I’ve emphasised vigilance to the permanent secretary, directors and heads of all departments to be attentive and to ensure vehicles are used for their right purpose,” he said.
While he acknowledged that day-to-day operations were not always the direct responsibility of senior officials, oversight remained a key part of their roles.
“As we acquire complex and expensive equipment, such as these vehicles, it is crucial that they are properly cared for and maintained to a high standard,” Ro Filipe said.
He said the Government had spent a lot of money on vehicles.
“Like any public asset, these vehicles must be maintained regularly according to schedule, operated by qualified personnel, and used responsibly.”
He said proper maintenance would ensure the longevity of these assets.
