A COMPREHENSIVE review of the Government’s ICT network infrastructure has started to assess the existing infrastructure with the goal of modernising its digital network systems to meet growing demands of efficient, secure and inclusive service delivery across all its agencies.

This review is aligned with the National Digital Strategy focused on building a digitally capable government, fostering innovation, and ensuring citizens benefitted from improved connectivity and access to public services.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications Manoa Kamikamica said the strategic review of the Government’s ICT network systems would significantly enhance connectivity, system performance and cybersecurity across ministries and departments.

“This initiative is a step toward achieving the goals set out in the National Digital Strategy, which prioritises digital transformation, institutional capacity building, and sustainable socio-economic development,” Mr Kamikamica said.

He said the project was more than a technical upgrade, but a foundation for innovation, transparency and more responsive governance.

“A stronger ICT network infrastructure means better delivery of government services and for the citizens, improved inter-agency collaboration, and greater protection of our government data.

This comprehensive review is being conducted to assess existing infrastructure, identify areas of improvement, and implement modern solutions that support high-speed communication, secure data exchange, and cloud-based technologies across the public sector,” the DPM said.

According to the ministry, some of the key benefits of the review to the Government and the citizens include:

– Enhanced operational efficiency and workflow across ministries,

– Reduction in system downtime and maintenance costs,

– Greater cybersecurity resilience and data protection,

– Faster, more accessible government services for citizens, and

– Support for inclusive digital access in rural and remote areas.

Mr Kamikamica said the review also contributed to achieving key pillars of the National Development Plan (NDP) by fostering economic growth, increasing efficiency and improving the quality of life by creating a more inclusive and digitally connected society.

Ministry permanent secretary Shaheen Ali said the Government remained committed to harnessing the power of technology to drive national progress.

He said this review was a bold and necessary investment in the country’s future, creating a digitally connected, secure and efficiency public service.
