Not just vandalism, but a wound to our nation’ – Jone Usamate

Listen to this article:

Fiji cannot move forward while hypocrisy goes unchallenged, said Opposition Member of Parliament, Jone Usamate while reacting to the act od sacrilege at the Samabula Shiv Mandir yesterday.

He said this was not merely vandalism, but an attack on national unity.

“Let it be made clear, racism and religious hatred are not naturally born, they are cultivated,” he said.

“They thrive when leaders preach unity but practice division.”

“Often, it is the message given by the Shepherd about the big bad wolf… when it is in fact the Shepherd themselves who are fattening, slaughtering and eating the sheep.”

“We must reject the weaponization of faith and ensure our politics are guided by one enduring principle, People First. Not power, not control, people.”

Mr Usamate added he stood in full solidarity with “our Hindu brothers and sisters.”

“Hatred must not define us. Courage and compassion must.”

“The future of our nation lies not in silence, but in truth spoken boldly and lived with integrity.”
