With days remaining until the FIJI Water Flying Fijians go head-to-head with Australia, coach Mick Byrne expresses confidence in his team’s ability to emerge victorious due to the high caliber of professional players within the squad.
Having spent three days training together, Byrne is pleased with the team’s cohesion and their swift grasp of the game plan.
“Three days together I think it’s been great, I think the understanding that these players are professional, either they come from the Drua or come from the Northern Hemisphere they are professional athletes, they know how to look after themselves,” said Byrne.
As the team reunites after their last meet in November, Byrne observes their enthusiasm and energy.
“The team knows what to expect, we are just picking up the game plan and working with it, it’s just been a good opportunity for players that haven’t been together since November, they are excited to meet each other again and get some real energy in the room.”
The international talent assembled within the team instills a sense of confidence in Byrne, who believes in their ability to excel both on and off the field.
“I guess getting everyone around the game plan has been our key, and we can let the energy take care of itself later in the week.
“When we see the talent that comes together in this room from around the world, you approach everyday with confidence whether is on or off the field.”
Byrne views every gathering of the team as an exciting opportunity, recognising the diverse backgrounds and experiences that each player brings to the table.
“The players are doing great jobs for their teams, in France, England and for the Fijian Drua, they are very professional the way they prepare themselves.
Byrne sees a formidable mix of talent ready to take on the challenge presented by the Wallabies.
The match kicks off at 3.30pm.
