Leader of Oppositio and Constitutional Officers Commission (CoC) member, Inia Seruiratu told the Commission of Inquiry that there were “systemic gaps in information sharing” at the CoC.

He testified that he first learned of Barbara Malimali’s resignation as chair of the Electoral Commission through a newspaper article dated 17 September 2024, and not through CoC communication.

“He stated that no resignation letter was shared with him at the time,” the CoI report quotes Mr Seruiratu as testifying

“He described the communication failures within the CoC Secretariat, highlighting that correspondence was inconsistently directed either to the Secretariat, or directly to the PM as Chair, leading to systemic gaps in information sharing.”

“He expressed that both the appointment to FICAC and the resignation from the ECF were rushed, and that this contributed to widespread suspicion of political manoeuvring.”
