Government skips mention of game day appearance as PM leads high-level delegation to Australia ahead of Fiji vs Wallabies match

In the week Fiji is playing the Wallabies, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is leading a Fijian delegation on a high-level visit to Australia.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had earlier announced that Mr Rabuka and he will attend the Fiji versus Wallabies game this weekend.

In a government statement released today, there is no mention of Mr Rabuka attending the match.

“At the invitation of the Australian Government, the Prime Minister will undertake high-level engagements, including a courtesy call on the Governor General Her Excellency Sam Mostyn,” said the statement.

Part of the delegation are Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua, Minister for Immigration Viliame Naupoto, Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister Dr Lesi Korovavala, Permanent Secretary for Civil Service, Public Enterprises Amena Yauvoli and the Deputy Commander of the RFMF, Commodore Humphrey Tawake.

The government statement said as part of the visit, discussions will also focus on strengthening border and ports capabilities, deepening security cooperation, and reinforcing regional solidarity in support of a safe, stable, and resilient Blue Pacific.

Mr Rabuka is also scheduled to meet with the Fijian diaspora in Canberra and Brisbane.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka will be acting Prime Minister.
