FIJI captain and fullback Pita Kewa has withdrawn from next Saturday’s final Fiji rugby trials.
Kewa will not be in the country on May 24, the day Fiji plays Australia in the only international Test.
Kewa, 35, last year’s Fiji captain during the South Pacific Games, told The Fiji Times it would be fair to others to withdraw from the trial on Saturday because he would not be available for the Test.
But he declared himself available for Fiji’s Tests against Italy, the All Blacks and the tours later of New Zealand and the Argentine.
“I wanted to take part in last Saturday’s East trials but I was forced out by ‘flu,” Kewa said.
Kewa will be attending the Commonwealth Association of Planners conference in London from May 19 to 24.
Kewa said he was putting his job first and this was why he has decided to declare himself unavailable for the test.
Kewa is the Fiji Government’s Director of Town and Country Planning.
He is scheduled to leave for London on May 16 and is expected back on May 27.
Kewa said he would miss watching the Wallabies games against Nadi on May 17 at Lautoka, Rewa at the National Stadium on May 20, and the 24 the test in Suva.
