TWO hundred and fifty climate-resilient model homes are expected to be constructed in Nepani, Nasinu, by the end of 2025.

The initiative, officially launched yesterday by Minister for Housing Maciu Nalumisa, aims to provide affordable, durable, and sustainable housing options for Fijian families, while also reducing construction time and increasing structural integrity.

Speaking at the launch, Mr Nalumisa said the model homes initiative reflected the Coalition Government’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development in the housing sector.

“This initiative is inclusive and climate-resilient, and aims to reduce construction time, provide structural integrity, and ensure affordability,” Mr Nalumisa said.

Under the program, two types of conventional homes will be constructed, one using precast panel walls and the other using light steel frame walls with panels.

“These two conventional homes are designed to be durable and sustainable for families and are part of the Government’s efforts to showcase practical and scalable housing solutions that can be adopted across the country.”

To ensure timely delivery, multiple contractors will be engaged to build the homes across key subdivisions, including Tavakubu in Lautoka, Tacirua in Suva, and Davuilevu in Nausori.

In addition to the model homes, the Housing Authority plans to develop 400 residential lots in Tavakubu, Davuilevu, Nepani, Tacirua, and Korosalusalu over the next two years.

Mr Nalumisa said the Government also intends to introduce row housing options to provide greater housing diversity and affordability.

“This ambitious program reflects the Coalition Government’s deep commitment to making home ownership a reality for more Fijians and to ensuring that our communities grow in a way that is inclusive, sustainable, and resilient.”

Mr Nalumisa has invited all Fijians looking for affordable housing to consider the offer under the model homes program.
