For the first time, government ministries, major banks, utility companies and corporate offices will take the field, not for meetings or deals but for touch rugby.
The Suva Touch Rugby Association is preparing to host its first-ever Business House Festival, which kicks off on June 28 at HFC Bank Stadium and continues on July 5 at Albert Park.
“This is the first time we’re having this. Suva Touch has never had this before and we’re looking to have it as an annual event,” said association president Danielle Keli.
The mixed-category tournament will feature 24 teams, though Keli said interest has already grown beyond their original target.
“For business house, it’s just a mixed category. We wanted to include both male and females, so we’re only introducing the mixed category.”
Pool A includes Centrecom Suva, Kontiki, Rolle Associates and BSP Life.
Pool B features the Ministry of Housing, Suva City Council, Mindpearl Storms and Volt Breakers.
Pool C has Westpac, Tower Insurance, Fiji National Provident Fund and the Land Transport Authority.
Pool D includes Goodman Fielder, Fiji Roads Authority, Frank Hilton and Combined Accountants.
Pool E sees Fiji Police Force, Medics, Ministry of Public Works and Telecom Fiji face off.
Pool F brings together the Ministry of Lands, Digicel, Fiji Revenue and Customs and Vodafone.
“This business house is normally during the weekdays, but for us, it’s a bit different just because of ground availability and the number of teams,” Keli explained.
Proceeds from the event will support Suva teams travelling to the Pacific Cup in New Zealand this November.
“We’re taking across four categories, men’s open team, women’s open team, masters 30s, and the men’s 35s,” she said.
“This business house is an initiative where a portion of this will help fund the teams going down to New Zealand.”
