A 30-year-old resident of Mokani Village entered the Prime Minister’s compund without permission on Saturday to seek his assistance.
Waisea Naitini pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal trespass during his initial court appearance before Magistrate Charles Ratakele at the Suva Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
When questioned by the court regarding his motives for entering the property, Mr Naitini stated that he had wanted to request assistance from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka concerning an issue in the village.
Alarm was raised when family members saw him sitting at the front door of Mr Rabuka’s home after accessing the premises through a rear entry that backed into a cassava patch.
Mr Naitini did not have any prior arrangement or authorisation and was subsequently arrested and taken to the Totogo Police Station with a shopping bag and a navy backpack.
In his mitigation, Mr Naitini asked the court for forgiveness.
He has been remanded for sentencing, which is scheduled for June 30.
