PSC appoints Dr Vinesh Kumar to lead Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Ministry

The Public Service Commission has announced the appointment of Dr Vinesh Kumar as incoming Permanent Secretary for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry.

Dr Kumar is currently the CEO of the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji.

PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada said the appointment followed a transparent and merit-based recruitment process conducted in May 2025.

He said PSC interviewed five shortlisted candidates on 20 May 2025 and agreed to recommend Dr Vinesh Kumar.

“Dr Kumar’s appointment is a testament to his proven leadership and dedication to national service,” said Mr Rokovada.

“We are confident he will bring a strong vision and effective leadership to this important portfolio.”

“The Commission is confident that his appointment will further strengthen the Ministry’s effort in revitalizing the sugar sector and promoting inclusive programs that support the needs of Fiji’s multi-ethnic communities.”

Dr Kumar has worked at Ministry of Agriculture and became Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Waterways in 2021-2023. He performed as Permanent Secretary Special Project in the Ministry of Sugar in 2023 before being appointed CEO for the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji later in 2023 till to date.
