Tiki Wasa netball club manager Rosene Laliqavoka says the main goal this year is to help their players improve, grow in the sport and enjoy every game.

Rosene currently manages three women’s teams under the club, Tiki Wasa (Premier), Tiki Vai (Super grade), and the development team, Tiki Makosoi, in the Suva Netball Club League competition.

Round three of the leagues took place yesterday at the National Netball Centre.

“This is a development team, and we still need to find another manager for them, but I’m happy to manage all three girls’ teams,” she said.

The club first started as a volleyball team and has slowly grown over the years.

“When Tiki started, it was just a volleyball team. Then in 2021 we formed our first girls’ netball team. Since then, we’ve added more teams, mixed, men, and queens and we keep growing,” she said.

Tiki now has seven teams: Tiki Tui (major grade), Tiki Wasa, Tiki Vai (super grade), Tiki Makosoi (development), Tiki Lei (queens), and two mixed teams: Tiki Lagi and Tiki Tribe.

Rosene said she used to play for Tiki Vai before she got injured last year.

Now, she focuses fully on managing and supporting all teams.

“This year we brought in a lot of new girls. One of our teams, Tiki Makosoi, played for the first time and only lost 10-8. That’s a good start,” she said.

Preseason began in January with fitness and gym work.

Court training started in March.

“Our club is about unity, growth, and support. Some girls come in not knowing how to play, and we train them. We even help players with transport or subs if they’re struggling.”

She said their goal is to keep seeing progress.

“We want our girls to improve every round and finish the season stronger than they started.”
