The Suva Touch Rugby Association will host its first-ever Business House Festival on June 28, at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Association president Danielle Keli confirmed the event will run over two Saturdays, with the second round scheduled for July 5 at Albert Park.

“This is the first time Suva Touch is organising a Business House competition. Normally our parent body handles this, but we decided to take it on as part of our fundraising efforts,” Keli said.

Funds raised from the festival will go towards helping Suva Touch teams that will attend the Pacific Cup set to be held in New Zealand this November.

“We will be taking four teams of four categories. The men’s open, women’s open, men’s 35s and the mixed master’s 30s category,” she said.

Keli said the business house festival tournament aims to attract 24 teams, but interest has already gone beyond that number.

“This year, we’re only introducing a mixed category to include both men and women. It’s about promoting inclusiveness and wellness in the workplace,” she said.

The games will not be played during weekdays as originally planned due to ground availability and time constraints, but organisers are open to running weekday games in the future if needed.

Touch rugby, Keli said, is a sport for everyone.

“It’s a non-contact sport that is safe, inclusive and family-friendly. It doesn’t matter your age, size, gender, everyone is welcome,” she said.

“We also want this event to create networking opportunities where we can, you know, network and just to get to know more people.”
