Police say they are aware of the social impact of drug raids, especially on families who may rely on marijuana cultivation for income.

Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu made the comments following reports from teachers in the North, who noticed a change in students’ lunches after drug seizures.

Mr Tudravu said police were committed to enforcing the law, but acknowledged the deeper issues behind drug crimes.

“We are approaching Operation Sasamaki holistically,” Mr Tudravu said.

He said they were working with government and private sector partners to break the cycle.

“We are engaging with other stakeholders to address the root causes and support affected communities.”

Operation Sasamaki continues to target marijuana farms across the country.
