A NEW medical clinic and mobile service offering services free of charge to the people of Nadroga/Navosa will officially open in Olosara, Sigatoka today.

Reproductive & Family Health Association of Fiji (RFHAF) chief executive officer Iftar Ali said this was the first medical clinic established in partnership with an organisation.

“We are grateful to Govid Family Foundation (GFF) for their partnership in providing the facilities for the clinic free of charge to RFHAF,” he said.

“We also thank Dr Salik Ram Govind, retired World Health Organization staff member, ex-parliamentarian who established the Govind Family Foundation as a charitable foundation with the mission to provide a service to humanity with focus on health wellbeing.

“Dr Salik Govind, with his over 40 years experience in public health globally and nationally, believes that health is a human right and 90 per cent of health problems can be prevented at grassroots level by simple and cost-effective interventions such as those that will be provided by Reproductive & Family Health Association of Fiji clinic and mobile services.

“These do not need expensive and costly hospitals and infrastructure and specialist health manpower.”

Mr Ali said the focus of primary health care should now be on youths and special clinic sessions targeting youths.

“The other two directors of GFF are Anitesh Govind, Dr of Jurisprudence and Dr Nitika Shalini Govind, training as a psychiatrist and both are committed to this initiative.

“Mr Rudolf Samoszynski (Rudi) from Victoria British Columbia, Canada, a retired ex-WHO, ADB, World Bank, UNFPA and other international health systems consultant, will attend the opening and provide support to establish a viable health information system for the project.

“We look forward to other stakeholder’s support for the project and are happy to receive feedback from the beneficiaries.”
