Teams are buzzing with excitement as the Fiji Sports Council Grassroots under-21 7s, makes its way to Rakiraki.

With a strong participation of 24 rugby teams and over 12 teams for Netball and Volleyball, the competition is shaping up to be an exciting one.

Emosi Lasaqa, the Fiji Sports Council communications officer, highlights the involvement of teams from Ra, Tavua, and Ba areas, with anticipated strong competition from last year’s champions Ba Rivers, as well as Dominion Brothers and Village Boys.

“The buzz in Rakiraki is electric. Villages and communities are rallying behind their local teams, and there’s excitement over spotting future stars of Fiji Rugby. Many are calling this the battle of the next generation,” said Lasaqa.

He adds there is a palpable excitement about discovering the potential future stars of Fiji Rugby, with many referring to this as the battleground for the next generation of talent.

“The Grassroots series has become a crucial platform for youth development, providing not just game time, but also discipline, exposure, and a sense of purpose.

“It promotes healthy lifestyles and gives aspiring players a real shot at being noticed by provincial and national selectors.

A message is sent out to teams interested in joining the tournament registrations are still open. This is an opportunity to become part of a movement that is shaping the future of rugby in Fiji.

“Our scout and Fiji Sports Council’s Grassroots Fiji 7s head coach Sireli Bobo will be there, and this is a chance to recruit young talents to join the FSC Grassroots Fiji 7s program.

“The message to the team is to come out in numbers and show love to your teams.

“The vibe at Narauyaba is always one of unity, celebration, and fierce competition. Bring your mats, your flags, and your voice the boys will need your backing from the first whistle to the last try.”

The tournament will take place at Nayauraba Sports ground on June 25-26.
