Women’s voices are not well represented in the legislature, says Minister for Women Sashi Kiran.
In opening the Women in Media Inaugural Conference 20025 held at the Grand Pacific HotelĀ in Suva, Ms Kiran reminded women in the media industry that they played a crucial role to break the common perception society in seeing women as decision makers at home.
She said a high number of people in society did not see women as decision makers.
“Unfortunately, the perception is that women make decisions at home but not in business or politics, yet our mothers not only shape our lives but make decisions on a daily basis,” she said.
“So how can we change that perception? How you portray women, in the media is crucial in influencing this thought pattern.
“In the evolving media landscape and era of social media, your hard work is often hijacked by keyboard warriors who just copy paste your work on their social media pages”
