Litiana Vueti from Visoto, Ovalau is grateful for the opportunity to wear the Vodafone Fijiana XV jersey for the first time.
The young full-back made her debut for Fijiana XV against Tonga in the recent Oceania Women’s Rugby Championship at Lawaqa Park, and she says it’s all part of God’s plan.
“I thank God for this talent and also thank the coaches for trusting and believing in me.
“Before the tournament started, I had faith that there would be space for me. I’m so grateful the coach gave me that chance in our first game,” Vueti said.
Vueti, who also played for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua in the Super W competition, showed great composure on debut.
She impressed under the high ball, covered the field well, and scored Fiji’s second try with a smart sidestep through the Tongan defence.
“Our team preparation was good, and we leave everything to God.
“I’m thankful for the coach’s life and for giving me strength and courage to take the field.”
While Vueti’s clearance and territorial kicks need more work, her overall performance was promising. With more game time, she is expected to grow into a key player for the national side.
The Fijiana XV have successfully defended their Oceania title and now turn their attention to their upcoming test match against the USA next month.
For Vueti, the journey has only just begun one built on faith, hard work, and pride in representing her island home.
