“Give blood, give hope: Together we save lives.”
That was the theme for World Blood Donor Day 2025, commemorated in Suva with a thanksgiving dinner hosted by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
The event, held at the Suva Yacht Club, honoured the contributions of local businesses that participated in voluntary blood donation drives throughout the year.
“The day is commemorated annually to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion,” Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa said.
He acknowledged the critical role played by voluntary, unpaid donors and the organisations that facilitate their contributions.
“We also want to highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems.”
The assistant minister said the occasion was also an opportunity to support blood transfusion services, non-governmental organisations, and donor organisations that helped expand and strengthen the reach of voluntary donation campaigns.
