THE donation of a bus for para-athletes by the Ministry of Women, Children & Social Protection has alleviated the burden of forking out money for expensive taxi rides.

This was shared by Team Fiji para-athletics head coach Fred Fatiaki recently, when sharing the challenges faced in the team’s preparation for the Pacific Mini Games in Palau.

“There’s always challenges, there’s no doubt about it. But I’m glad that our athletes and officials persevered and went through the different challenges individually as a team,” he remarked.

“The ministry donated a transport just to help our para-athletes, especially athletes in a wheelchair, to take them from point A to point B for training sessions.

“They’re finding it hard in terms of getting taxi, and it’s quite expensive going by taxi nowadays.”

“We’re looking forward to getting that new transport that’s been given to us a few weeks ago to help our athletes in terms of transportation from point A to point B for training sessions,” he highlighted.

He added the Fiji Paralympic Committee and other sporting bodies had assisted in getting the donation through for the para-athletes.

“We are thankful to the Government and the Ministry of Social Welfare for donating the bus and helping us athletes for these next few months.”

With the timely donation, he says it will boost their preparations for future competitions later on in the year.

Meanwhile, for the Mini Games in Koror, Palau, there are five para-athletes participating for Team Fiji.
