Fiji has voted against a United Nations General Assembly resolution that demanded an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Fiji was amongst 12 countries that voted against the resolution. Other countries included Argentina, Hungary, Israel, Federated State of Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, Tuvalu and United States.
149 countries voting in favour and 19 countries abstained.
The resolution, titled “Protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations,” urges all parties to uphold international law, calls for the release of hostages, and demands the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
