THE Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) has invested more than $18million in machinery over the past two years, with the Lautoka sugar mill receiving a large portion of the funds.
Opening the 2025 sugar cane crushing season, Sugar Industry Minister Charan Jeath Singh said the mill would continue to operate as FSC’s hub of operations.
“The Lautoka sugar mill continues to serve as a cornerstone of the Fiji Sugar Corporation’s operations,” said Mr Singh.
“During the 2024 crushing season, it processed 368,260 tonnes of sugarcane, producing 31,403 tonnes of sugar and 18,403 tonnes of molasses.
“In the past two years, FSC has invested over $18million in machinery upgrades and preventative maintenance across all mills – with a significant portion directed to Lautoka.
“These investments are already yielding results – improving mill reliability, reducing downtime and enhancing sugar recovery.”
Mr Singh said the mill had played an integral part in the operations of the FSC.
“Beyond processing, Lautoka is FSC’s primary logistics hub, with sugar shipments managed through Lautoka port to both domestic and international markets.
“It is also home to our Central Procurement Division, which plays a critical role in sourcing and supplying essential materials across the entire mill network.”
