THE Health Ministry is facing challenges in its fight against HIV and AIDS due to a shortage of staff, says Health Minister Dr Atonio Lalabalavu.
Dr Lalabalavu said any limitation in resources, including staffing, affects the ministry’s ability to run effective programs.
“Anything that limits our ability to carry out an effective program will always have an effect,” he said.
Dr Lalabalavu said they would explore other ways to ensure there’s an ample workforce to continue the fight against HIV.
“We will look at other avenues to ensure we have the necessary workforce in place to tackle our fight against HIV,” Dr Lalabalavu said.
While emphasising the importance of awareness and education, he said treatment for HIV is available for free, allowing those infected to live normal and productive lives.
“People are to get tested and know their HIV status,” he said, adding that HIV was no longer a death sentence in the country.
