Since taking up office one week ago, acting Commissioner of Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), Lavi Rokoika is bringing about some changes within the organisation.

This is through a number of internal reforms aimed at improving the delivery of its core anti-corruption mandate.

“These changes reflect our commitment to delivering results,” she said.

“We are focussed on getting outcomes, not just rhetoric and rebuilding public trust through action and reform.”

Changes that are coming into effect at FICAC are the setting up of a Special Taskforce to address the backlog of unresolved investigations.

The Corruption Prevention Department has been shutdown and staff from here have been reassigned to other strategic units within the Commission to better support investigations and prosecutions.

A core awareness and training unit will remain in place to continue mandated education and outreach programs. No staff have been terminated as a result of these changes.

The Audit and Compliance Unit has been merged with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team. This new unit is now known as Oversight and Accountability Unit.

FICAC will now engage a senior legal consultant with extensive litigation experience who will assist in prioritising prosecutions and reviewing longstanding case files to accelerate the legal process.

FICAC will also review its Standing Orders which has been in the pipeline since July 2024.
