POTENTIAL changes or revisions made to the education curriculums should be made in consultation with teacher training institutions (TTIs), says schoolteacher Elenoa Lasekula.
Ms Lasekula raised this issue during a consultation on the review of the Education Act of 1966 last week.
“Curriculum revision and upgrading are core pillars of the ministry,” she said.
“We have seen our revised curriculum in literacy and numeracy. It was just piloted one year, and the following year it was rolled out.
“My recommendation is if there’s a provision for that in the act, for all the revised curriculum, or anything to do with the curriculum should be done in consultation with the TTIs”
Ms Lasekula said graduate teachers were not well versed with the revised curriculum.
“Last year, a student from the well known TTI came for teaching practice, and she was lost, and I talked to her, and she told me that they were not aware of that revised curriculum.
“So, my recommendation and suggestion, if it can be implemented, like in our days, the curriculum was taught in the TTIs before we were posted to schools, so if that can be done as well.”
Review committee member Metuisela Gauna noted Ms Lasekula’s concern and said this issue had been raised at previous consultations.
