THE sacking of those implicated in the Commission of Inquiry report is only the first step, says Unity Fiji party leader Savenaca Narube.

While calling on Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to release the full COI report, Mr Narube said its recommendations on suspended FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali should also be used as an opportunity to clean up corrupt elements within Government.

“The eye of the cyclone has not passed yet,” said Mr Narube.

“We must remain vigilant until the eye has passed and the grounds are fully exposed, so I urge the people to continue to demand the following, that the full Commission of Inquiry report is released to the public so that we know the full story.

“We must not allow the Government to shelter anyone irrespective of position that are implicated in the Commissioner of Inquiry report and the sacking of those implicated is only the first step.”

He said the law must take its course.

“So, Fiji must use this cyclone to blow out all of the corruption from this country.

“First accelerate the case against the previous government. It has now been three years since we changed government, and you have only seen a few weak cases brought to the court.

“We need to clean up all of the corrupt elements within the police and all government ministries and thirdly you need to continue the investigations that were dropped by (Ms) Malimali.

“And the next one is to strengthen the independence and technical capabilities of FICAC and police to investigate corruption.”
