A 30-year-old self-employed man has been charged with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and a count of Possession of Property suspected to be from the proceed of Crime.
Police, in a statement said the resident of Davuilevu Housing was questioned and charged by the Fiji Police Force Cyber Crime team.
“It is believed that on 30th March, last year, the accused obtained $260 from victim through the online money transfer platform. It is alleged that the victim was conversing with the accused for a rental car as advertised by accused on a page called ‘Fiji Rental Cars’ that was posted on Social Media.”
“The money then transferred to the accused but he failed to provide the necessary service. The matter was then reported at Lautoka Police Station .
“The 30-year-old is now in custody and will be produce at Nasinu Magistrate Court today at 02.30pm.”
