Japan’s government has provided the Fiji navy with maritime security and safety assistance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan has announced.
This initial delivery includes a rescue boat, a training mannequin, and an underwater camera, which are all part of a three-phase equipment support initiative that Japan is providing to the Fiji Navy.
The donation was made under Japan’s Official Security Assistance program that is intended to deepen security ties with like-minded countries.
A handover ceremony was on held on Monday at the Stanley Brown Naval Base.
The assistance is expected to “contribute to secure a free and open Indo-Pacific through maintenance and enhancement of maritime security in the seas around Fiji and the Indo-Pacific region,” the ministry said.
