China has funded the refurbishment works to the North Wing of State House.

The work was undertaken by the Yanjian Group (Fiji) Limited over a twenty-day period from mid-April to mid-May.

People’s Republic of China’s Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian highlighted that the refurbishment works of the State House reflects China’s respect for Fijian History and culture.

“The refurbishment works of the State House indicated a bright future of cooperation between China and Fiji,” he said.

“Fiji is one of the Pacific Island countries with the deepest ties, the longest standing diplomatic relations and the most solid cooperation with China.”

In 2011, China funded the construction of perimeter walls for State House and the Botanical Garden, marking an earlier phase of its support.
