Lautoka Basketball Association will honour the legacy of former player Edwin Taufiq Ali by hosting a memorial 5×5 basketball competition next Friday, at the Lautoka Multipurpose Courts.
The tournament, titled the Edwin Taufiq Ali Memorial Trophy, will begin at 8am and is open to both men’s and women’s teams. Entry fee is set at $50 per team.
Lautoka Basketball development officer Mataiasi Taito confirmed the event is not limited to local teams.
“The more the teams, the better. We are opening our invitations to Suva, Raiwai, and Nadi Basketball Associations,” said Taito.
The one-day event will feature cash prizes and trophies for both categories.
The winners will walk away with $250 and a trophy, while runners-up will receive $200 and a trophy.
The competition is expected to draw top local talent and promises an exciting day of basketball action as teams battle for glory while remembering a beloved player of the Lautoka basketball community.
