NFA prepares for future urban search and rescue and swift water rescue

With urban densification with taller structures in the next 10-20 years, the National Fire Authority (NFA) has commenced a comprehensive training program in urban search and rescue and swift water rescue.

This training initiative is between the NFA and Queensland Fire Department.

“In the next 10 to 20 years, the built environment in Fiji will look very different. Urban densification will lead to taller structures, and we must be prepared for the challenges this presents,” said NFA CEO Puamau Sowane.

“This training ensures that our emergency responders have both the knowledge and the tools to meet these future demands head-on.”

“This is a rare and valuable opportunity to build the skills that can save lives.”

“You are not just learning for yourselves, but for your communities and for the wider Pacific.”

NFA officers and their counterparts from Samoa are part of the training.
