Crusaders Fiji-born winger Sevu Reece’s potential call-up to don the All Blacks jersey is swinging in the balance when head coach Scott Robertson finalises his squad for a three-Test series against France in July.

He faces stiff competition for the role due to other speedsters in other Super Rugby Pacific teams who may be summoned to join the All Blacks.

In an interview with RugbyPass recently, he acknowledged the capabilities present in the other players who are all vying for a chance when Robertson, known as the Razor, makes his final call.

“It’s not long now until the All Blacks squad is going to be getting finalised. At the end of the day, you can just control what you can control and all that’s out of our control. It’s up to the coaches who they go for,” Reece told RugbyPass.

“You can look at it in two ways. We’re so lucky in New Zealand with the depth we’ve got with wingers is just crazy.”

He made reference to players such as Caleb Tangitau of the Highlanders and fellow Fijian players such as Kini Naholo for the Hurricanes and Emoni Narawa for the Chiefs, as examples of that.

While he credited them for the depth they infused into the game, he emphasised on how that served as an incentive for him to amplify himself.

For the Kadavu winger who first wore the All Blacks jersey in July 2019, making the cut for it once more has always been the endgame.

“If the All Blacks comes, it comes, if it doesn’t, I’ll head further south to Invercargill. But that’s always the dream and the goal to always play for the All Blacks,” he added.
