Saiyad Ali’s name has long been associated with the rise of Navua football, and today, he continues to lead from the front as the head coach of the Navua senior team.

Ali’s journey began in 1988 when he debuted as a midfielder for the Navua side.

Just a year later, he played a key role in helping the district earn its first-ever promotion to the premier division in 1989, a historic moment for the small footballing community.

He remained a key figure on the pitch for Navua until the early 2000s.

In 2003, Ali transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant to JK Singh during Navua’s memorable Fiji FACT campaign, where they lifted the title at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

His passion for football development saw him take on multiple roles with the Fiji Football Association, including Development Director, Technical Director, and National Team Manager.

During this period, he worked alongside then-national coach Carlos Buzzetti of Uruguay, from whom he gained valuable coaching insights.

In 2010, Ali expanded his football knowledge overseas, travelling to five European countries as part of a coach education program with Football Australia. He later moved to the United States to settle with his family.

In 2022, a holiday trip to Fiji unexpectedly reignited his involvement with Navua. He rejoined the team and has been an integral part of its coaching staff ever since.

This year’s BiC Fiji FACT marks Ali’s third consecutive year at the helm of Navua, completing a full-circle journey that spans decades.

His story is one of loyalty, growth, and unwavering dedication to a district and sport that continues to define his life.
