AS Term 2 of the 2025 academic year begins today, the Fiji Teachers Union (FTU) is urging students and educators across the country to enter the new school term with a renewed sense of purpose, resilience, and unity.

In a statement released this week, FTU general secretary Muniappa Goundar called on students to focus not only on academic achievement but also on personal growth, character development, and building respectful relationships in their school communities.

“This new term presents an opportunity not only to build upon the foundations laid in Term 1 but also to embrace growth, resilience, and excellence,” Mr Muniappa said.

“While grades matter, what matters more is your willingness to learn, your attitude toward challenges, and your respect for others.

“Learn not only for exams but for life. Practice kindness, respect your teachers and peers, and make your classroom a place where everyone feels safe and supported.

“Each term is a stepping stone to your dreams, and your choices now will shape the future you envision.”

Mr Muniappa also paid tribute to the teachers and described them as the “cornerstone of the education system”.

“Term 2 often comes with increased workload and expectations, but remember that your influence is immeasurable,” he said.

“In challenging times, your unity and professionalism are a beacon of hope and strength.”
