Ram Sami Nasinu Rugby Union has seen a decrease in the number of participating teams this year compared to 2024.
This was according to the union’s assistant treasurer Akuila Rokobuli who was overseeing their fourth round of competition yesterday at St Marcellin Primary School in Vatuwaqa.
Last year the union had registered 12 teams but this year only 10 teams are part of their weekly competition.
Rokobuli shared the main factor that contributed to this decline.
“The number of teams have dropped because of the unavailability of grounds. This is the biggest challenge we are facing likewise for other unions.
“We used to have our weekly games here before we shifted to USP but they’ve closed their grounds for upgrade and we are thankful to be accepted back here only for a few weeks before the start of Milo Kaji.
“So, Tovata and Kalabu have decided to part ways with us,” he shared.
Just like other unions, Nasinu Rugby has a vision of having its own ground.
“For us the priority right now is securing a suitable ground. When we started in 2016, we had 22 clubs because we were utilising two grounds in FNU and AOG school.
“We had to shift from FNU in Valelevu because they had closed the grounds for development.”
This issue is common amongst provincial rugby unions in the country with only a few grounds shared amongst them.
