NADI-based manufacturer and distributor of hotel room amenities, Portion Pak will be launching its Wananavu Refillable Silicone Water Bottles in July.

The company was a sponsor of the Fiji Tourism Exchange (FTE) 2025 held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort earlier this week.

In an interview, general manager sales and marketing James (Jimi) Kennedy-Grant said a lot of hotels have shown their interest with its latest sustainable alternative to millions of single use plastic water bottles.

“When a guest checks in to a hotel, we present the bottle as a gift from the resort,” he said.

“Currently let’s say there is a family of four and they go into the hotel room there will be four bottles of water, and that water is replaced every day. And those plastic bottles go to the rubbish every day.

“So, my idea is when you check in at reception, there are four different colored bottles in the fridge full of water and when you arrive, we present the bottles as a gift from the resort. And we say we are trying to reduce the plastic; here is a map with all the refill stations.

“Last year we used 210,000 bottles, please take this with you when you leave as a gift from us.

“No more plastic bottles.”

Mr Kennedy-Grant said they had airfreighted the refillable silicone water bottles specifically for the FTE 2025.

“Another stock will be arriving in July. A lot of hotels have shown their interest, and we will also bring a laser machine to print the names on the bottles.”

Apart from the refillable silicone water bottles, the company also makes compostable coffee cups and lids for resorts.

“This is a range of coffee cups that are certified home compostable, and they are certified to the Australian and European standard,” Mr Kennedy-Grant said.

“So, if you put this to the compost pile with all the plants etc, it will break down.

“Also, five per cent of the value of these cups goes to Rise Beyond the Reef and in the last three quarters, we generated over $8,000 which goes to them.

“So, it’s amazing and even the lid is made from sugar cane.”
