After 14 years, Government will carry out a valuation of agricultural land holdings under the Agricultural and Landlord Tenants Act (ALTA).
This will be for all leases under ALTA on i-Taukei land, State land and freehold.
“As required under the ALTA Act, a Sales and Valuation review must be carried out every four years,” states Chair for the Committee of Valuer, Dr Tekini Nakidakida.
“Unfortunately, while the last successful review was completed in 2011, the 2016 review was conducted but never Gazetted, and the 2021 review did not take place.”
He said as a result, the Government is now committed to updating lease values, recognizing that the current figures from 2011 are outdated and no longer reflect the true economic value of leased land.
“The ALTA Sates Inspection Team will be visiting agricultural land holdings irrespective of tenure, being i-Taukei land, State land and freehold in the North, West, and Central Eastern regions as part of the legally mandated Sales Inspection and Valuation Review.”
“This inspection aims to verify production and sales data, ensure lease compliance, and support transparency and accountability in the sector.”
“All leaseholders are legally obligated to cooperate with the inspection team.”
These inspections will take place from 12th May to 13th June 2025.
