The Rarawai sugar mill in Ba will operate this year, said Fiji Sugar Corporation Chairman, Nitya Reddy.
He gave this assurance after the Sugar Industry Tribunal last week announced the commencement date of crushing at Lautoka and Labasa mills, with the exception of Rarawai.
“I can assure you that Rarawai mill will most definitely operate this year. There is absolutely no basis for speculating otherwise,” said Mr Reddy.
“We will continue to employ the usual workforce to enable normal operations.”
“As per the provisions of the Master Award the exact crushing date will be announced by the Sugar Industry Tribunal in due course.”
The Lautoka mill start its 2025 crushing season on June 11 while Labasa will commence on June 17.
Growers in the relevant mill areas should begin harvesting and delivery of cane a day before.
