Quality medical care is now on offer for sugarcane growers with the signing of a landmark deal between the Sugar Cane Growers Council, India’s MIOT Pacific Medical and MIOT Hospitals Private Ltd in Lautoka this week, says council CEO Vimal Dutt.

He said the agreement would open new doors for cane growers and their families to access world-class healthcare services.

“We had the privilege of visiting MIOT’s state-of-the-art facilities this year,” said Mr Dutt. “The experience was truly eye-opening. The technology, exceptional quality of care and the unwavering patient-centric approach have left a lasting impression.”

MIOT Pacific Medical executive director Krishika Narayan said they were proud to play a role in bridging healthcare needs with world-class treatment solutions through MIOT Hospitals in India.

“This collaboration is rooted in compassion, coordination and care,” she said.

The agreement lays the groundwork for a framework of mutual cooperation aimed at streamlining healthcare access and enhancing the overall quality of life for Fijian sugarcane growers. “This initiative is expected to have a far-reaching impact, fostering trust, health equity, and improved wellbeing in one of the country’s most vital agricultural sectors.”

The partnership serves as a liaison between the council and MIOT Hospitals coordinating initial health checks, specialist referrals and travel arrangements for farmers needing overseas care. The deal stipulates that SCGC would engage directly with farmers, guiding them through available healthcare services, scheduling consultations and supporting them throughout their treatment.
