The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection has ramped up nationwide awareness campaigns to increase public engagement with the 1560 Domestic Violence Helpline.

Minister Sashi Kiran confirmed the ministry “continues to implement awareness and outreach initiatives to increase public knowledge and strengthen support for survivors of abuse”.

The initiatives have included regular awareness activities across all four divisions and the widespread distribution of IEC materials through ministry offices and key partners such as civil society groups, health workers, faith-based organisations, and community leaders.

Referral pathway documents have also been created for each division, as a guide for responders such as police, social workers, and health professionals on how to manage and refer gender-based violence cases effectively.

“The ministry actively participates in talkback radio shows in all three major vernacular languages (iTaukei, Hindi, and English), particularly when invited by the media. These platforms provide an opportunity to reach a wider and more diverse audience, including rural and remote communities,” she said.

The ministry has also played a lead role in national movements such as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and International Women’s Day.

“There has been a significant increase in the use of social media platforms to share timely updates, highlight toll-free numbers, and educate the public on where and how to access assistance.”

The minister acknowledged that challenges remain in reaching every corner of the country.

“We recognise that there are still gaps in access to information, particularly for those in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

“Therefore, the ministry will continue to explore and implement more effective and inclusive campaigning strategies to ensure that no one is left behind and that every individual, regardless of location, has access to critical information and support services when needed.”
