The Ministry of Employment is committed to modernising and digitising its own occupational health and safety (OHS) practices.
Acting permanent secretary Atish Kumar told participants during the World Day for Safety and Health at Work event in Suva recently their OHS practices included implementation of a paperless approach for inspections and reporting, and a transition to cashless systems and online services.
“These initiatives aim to create a safe and advanced workforce in Fiji,” Mr Kumar said.
Referring to Artificial Intelligence (Al), he said AI was reshaping the nature and future of work, automating routine tasks and amplifying the value of human skills such as creativity, empathy and problem-solving.
“This transformation presents an opportunity to prioritise human potential and wellbeing, but achieving it requires collaboration.
“Employers and businesses must invest in people as much as technology, and the Government will ensure that Al’s benefits are shared equitably.
“With careful management of risks, we can harness Al to create a more inclusive, ethical, and sustainable future of work.”
