Lautoka FC kept their top eight hopes alive with a strong 4-2 win over Suva FC in the Extra Premier League clash at the Uprising Sports Centre yesterday, a win that acting president Faiyaaz Ali says is dedicated to all mothers.

“Today (yesterday), we came for a win, and we thank our Almighty God for giving us victory. The boys did their part,” said Ali.

Under Ali’s leadership, Lautoka has now recorded back-to-back wins, including their win over Nadi last Sunday.

“The win is a gift for all mothers of Lautoka and the around the word. Happy Mother’s Day to you all,” he said.

The Blues bounced back from a 2-all draw in the second half to seal victory with two late goals.

Mohammed Ali opened by scoring a goal early for Lautoka in the first half with a well-finished effort.

Goolam Razool followed up with Lautoka’s second try to give them a 2-0 lead.

Suva responded after the break.

Peniasi Rotidara got them on the board with a try that cut the deficit to 2-1.

Joe Moses then levelled the match at 2-2, raising hopes of a comeback for the capital city side.

But Lautoka had other plans.

They were awarded a penalty try in the second half after persistent pressure, with Ali credited for the decisive break that forced the infringement. That made it 3-2 to Lautoka.

With just three minutes left, Lautoka captain Saula Waqa powered over for their fourth goal, sealing a hard-earned win.

The result keeps Lautoka in the top eight and strengthens their chances of a strong finish this season.

They showed good structure and control, especially in the final stages of the match.

Suva, despite a strong fightback in the second half, were unable to hold off Lautoka’s late surge.

The match was played in fine conditions before a lively crowd who witnessed six entertaining goals.
