Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica says he fully supports Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka amid tensions within the Coalition.

Mr Kamikamica made the comment when asked whether Fiji could face early elections if the coalition agreement with the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) collapses.

SODELPA played a key role in forming the coalition after the 2022 General Election.

“There’s no split from the Prime Minister,” he said.

In an interview with this newspaper, he said Mr Rabuka remained firmly in control.

“He is the Prime Minister and he is certainly with the People’s Alliance. We support his views.”

Mr Kamikamica also hinted that more discussions on the matter with the Prime Minister would be held soon.

“We’ll probably have a more detailed discussion on the issue (this) week.”

Tensions within the coalition were sparked by a controversial post from SODELPA general secretary Viliame Takayawa, prompting internal meetings and public scrutiny.

“We are supposed to be here to serve the country. We are not here to pick on each other. The country wants us to do the work,” Mr Kamikamica said

He said decisions made by Mr Rabuka would be respected by other members of the Coalition Government.

The social media post has since been taken down following a directive from SODELPA leader Aseri Radrodro.
