Maka Ofati of Tuvalu and Storm Cornish of Fiji proved unstoppable on the court yesterday as they powered their way to victory in the men’s doubles final of the Extra Fiji Tennis Open.

They defeated Malaysia’s Razlan Shaqeel and Omar Khir in two straight sets. The Pacific duo showed exceptional teamwork and played confidently to their game structure, controlling the match from start to finish.

The win came shortly after Ofati and Cornish faced off in the men’s singles final, where Ofati came out on top. Despite being rivals in singles, the two combined their individual strengths and deep friendship to lift their momentum in the doubles final, showcasing sharp coordination and explosive smashes that left the Malaysians struggling to keep up.

“It was a good match,” Ofati said after the game.

“We thank our brothers from Malaysia for a great game.”

Shaqeel acknowledged the class of their opponents.

“Maka Ofati and Storm Cornish are star players.

“We learned a lot from them. They are good players,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the 50+ women’s singles final, Fiji’s Daphne Kamoe put on a composed and dominant display to defeat Peta Parker of Australia in two straight sets, sealing her title win with strong serves and consistent play.

In the Under-12 girls singles final, Anushka Patel of Fiji also walked away victorious after beating her teammate Kaviva Nair in two straight sets. Patel maintained her composure and accuracy throughout the match, showcasing promising talent for the future of Fijian tennis.
