SUVA Grammar School U18 team defeated Labasa College 33-17 in a friendly on Monday as they continue their bid to win this year’s Deans Trophy.
School principal Iosefa Masivue said Labasa College gave them a strong challenge, and he was pleased with the match.
“I went to school here, so I’m proud and honoured to bring Suva Grammar to my old school,” he said.
However, Masivue said, he admired the talent on display from the Labasa team.
“The Labasa College team stood up well against us, and I’m proud of them.”
He said the match was part of a school tour aimed at giving students a new experience outside Suva, especially in rural areas.
“We just wanted the boys to have that experience, and hopefully, it’s a two-way thing, we learn from them as much as they learn from us,” he said.
The school is also using the tour to mark its 65th Jubilee celebrations.
Masivue said this was one of several major events organised for the occasion, including another Suva Grammar team, the under-16 side, touring New Zealand.
The win gives Suva Grammar momentum as they aim to bring home the Deans title this year.
