We made the military and your father uncomfortable, Fijian Media Association General Secretary, Stanley Simpson has told Rajendra Chaudhry, son of Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry.
This follows a social media post by New Zealand based Rajendra Chaudhry who stated Mr Simpson and “other journalists did to stand up to the 2006 Bainimarama takeover.”
“Did he organise any marches, did he organise any international attention, did he rally the people against the Bainimarama regime?” Mr Chaudhry said.
“If the answer to any and all the above questions is in the negative, he should shut up.”
In a scathing response, Mr Simpson also posted on social media, “I am a journalist. We don’t march – we report – ee expose people.”
“We asked hard questions your father couldn’t answer. We made the military and your father uncomfortable. They got angry and hit back,” he said.
“My business partners Laisa Digitaki and Imraz Iqbal got severely beaten at the army camp for it. I was questioned. Our Fiji Living magazine office got destroyed. Our business died. We lost our source of income.”
“What did you do? You stayed silent. Your father and the FLP stayed silent. Sat at Level 10 Ro Lalabalavu House.”
“We suffered. Found a way to survive. You ran away to NZ. We still surviving here. But you should come back and face your justice.”
